COB LED displays, being rigid, cannot be curved in the field. They require flat, stable mounting surfaces and precise alignment of cabinets. For applications requiring a flat, high-resolution display—such as digital signage, control rooms, or corporate boardrooms—COB is the straightforward choice. For artistic or architectural installations that demand non-planar surfaces, flexible LED displays are the only viable option, despite their lower resolution and durability.

Application Scenarios and Cost Considerations

The choice between COB and flexible LED displays ultimately depends on the specific application. COB technology is the preferred solution for high-end, close-viewing environments: command and control centers (pixel pitch 0.9 mm to 1.5 mm), broadcast studios (brightness 800 nits, refresh rate 3840 Hz), and luxury retail displays (IP65 front protection, high contrast). These applications justify the higher initial cost of COB panels, which can be 30% to 50% more expensive per square meter than equivalent flexible displays. Flexible LED displays are more cost-effective for large-scale, non-critical viewing distances: outdoor building wraps (pixel pitch 6 mm to 10 mm), event stages (brightness 2500 nits, quick setup), and curved architectural features. The lower cost per square meter, combined with the ability to create unique shapes, makes flexible displays attractive for temporary installations or projects with limited budgets. However, one must factor in the shorter lifespan and higher maintenance costs of flexible panels. For permanent installations where visual quality and longevity are paramount, COB LED displays offer a better return on investment.
