LED displays deployed in regions prone to sandstorms face severe abrasion and infiltration challenges that require specialized protective measures. Sandstorms carry fine particles at high velocities that can scratch and pit display surfaces, degrade optical coatings, and infiltrate enclosures through the smallest gaps. The abrasive action of wind-driven sand on LED module front surfaces can reduce display brightness and clarity over time, creating a hazy or frosted appearance that diminishes visual impact. Protective measures include sacrificial laminated front glass that can be periodically replaced, recessed display mounting within protective housings that deflect airflow, and positive pressure enclosure systems that prevent sand infiltration by maintaining higher internal air pressure.
