The installation team must verify that the arena electrical system can handle the combined peak current draw without voltage drop.

Selecting the Optimal Pixel Pitch and Resolution

The choice of pixel pitch directly determines the viewing distance and image clarity for spectators. For a sports arena where the closest seated spectators are at least 10 meters from the screen, a pixel pitch of 10mm to 16mm is standard. If the display must serve both front-row and upper-deck viewers, a pixel pitch of 8mm to 10mm is recommended. For example, a 12mm pixel pitch provides a native resolution of approximately 2,080 by 1,080 pixels on a 25-meter wide by 14-meter tall display. This yields acceptable image quality for live sports broadcasts and scoreboard data. For premium seating areas or courtside ribbon displays, a finer pixel pitch of 4mm to 6mm is required to maintain sharp text and graphics at distances under 5 meters. The total resolution must be calculated based on the display width and height divided by the pixel pitch. A display measuring 19.2 meters by 10.8 meters with a 10mm pitch yields 1,920 by 1,080 pixels, matching HD resolution. For 4K content, the pixel count must reach 3,840 by 2,160 pixels, which demands a display size of approximately 38.4 meters by 21.6 meters at 10mm pitch.

Brightness, Refresh Rate, and Environmental Protection

Indoor sports arenas require a brightness level of 1,500 to 3,000 nits to overcome ambient lighting from floodlights and television broadcast lights. Outdoor or partially covered stadiums demand 5,000 to 8,000 nits to remain visible in direct sunlight. The refresh rate must be at least 1,920 Hz to eliminate flicker during high-speed camera broadcasts. Professional sports broadcasts require a refresh rate of 3,840 Hz or higher to ensure smooth slow-motion replays without scanning lines. The IP rating for indoor arena displays should be at least IP20 for the front and IP54 for the rear to protect against dust and condensation. For outdoor installations, an IP65 rating is mandatory for both front and rear enclosures to withstand rain, dust, and humidity. The operating temperature range must accommodate the arena environment, typically -10 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius, with active cooling fans or liquid cooling systems for high-brightness models.

Structural Mounting and Rigging Systems

The mounting system must be engineered to distribute the display weight evenly across the arena structure. For suspended displays, a steel truss system with a safety factor of 5:1 is standard. The installation team must use grade 8.8 or higher bolts and lock washers for all connections. For wall-mounted displays, a galvanized steel frame is anchored into concrete using expansion bolts rated for 10 kilonewtons each. The display cabinets must be installed with a gap tolerance of no more than 1.5 millimeters between adjacent panels to maintain a seamless image. The mounting brackets should allow for micro-adjustments in all three axes to align the display perfectly. Power Distribution and Signal Routing

A dedicated power distribution unit (PDU) is required for each display zone. The PDU must include surge protection, circuit breakers, and emergency shut-off controls. For a large arena display consuming 50 kilowatts, the electrical feed must be a three-phase 480-volt supply with a minimum amperage of 120 amps per phase. Calibration, Testing, and Final Inspection

After physical installation, each LED module must be calibrated for color temperature (typically 6,500 Kelvin for sports broadcasts) and brightness uniformity. A spectrophotometer is used to measure each pixel and apply correction factors to ensure a consistent image across the entire display. The calibration process takes approximately 4 to 8 hours for a 200-square-meter display. Following calibration, the display must undergo a 72-hour burn-in test at 100% brightness to identify any defective modules. The refresh rate is verified using a high-speed camera to confirm no visible flicker at 1/1,000 second shutter speed. The viewing angle is tested to ensure a minimum of 140 degrees horizontal and 120 degrees vertical without color shift. The power draw is measured under full white, full black, and 50% gray patterns to validate the electrical load calculations. Finally, a complete system test with live video feed, scoreboard data, and emergency messaging ensures all functions operate correctly. The installation team must provide a detailed report including pixel pitch, brightness, resolution, power consumption, and IP rating for the arena management records.
