However, before you place an order, you need to know exactly how many LED cabinets your project requires.
Getting this number right keeps your budget on track and ensures your structural frame fits perfectly. In this guide, we will break down the exact formulas and steps you need to calculate your LED cabinet count like a pro.
At its core, the math is straightforward. To find the total number of cabinets, you simply divide the total screen area by the size of a single cabinet.
However, since curves introduce angles and radii, you cannot just measure a straight line. Instead, you need to calculate the arc length first.
To get an accurate count, gather your screen’s design blueprint and the spec sheet for your chosen LED cabinets. Then, follow these four steps.
Step 1: Calculate the Arc Length (L)
First, you need to determine the actual length of the curve. To do this, you must know your project’s radius and the central angle in degrees.
Use the following standard arc length formula:

Pay attention to where you measure the radius. For inner (concave) curves, measure to the screen’s front surface. For outer (convex) curves, verify whether your radius refers to the mounting structure or the LED face, as even a few inches of cabinet depth can alter your final numbers.
Once you have the total arc length, you can find out how many cabinets you need to line up horizontally. Take your total arc length and divide it by the width of a single cabinet .
Number of horizontal sections (Nh) = Arc length (L) ÷ Width of a single section (W)
Note: If your result includes a decimal, always round up to the next whole number to ensure your screen fully covers the intended curve.
Next, figure out the height of your display. Divide your desired total screen height by the height of a single cabinet .
Number of vertical cabinets (Nv) = Total screen height (H) ÷ Height of a single cabinet (h)
Finally, multiply your horizontal count by your vertical count to get your grand total.
Total number of boxes = Number of boxes in the horizontal direction × Number of boxes in the vertical direction
Let’s look at a practical example to see how this works in action.
Imagine you want to build a 90-degree curved corner screen with a radius of 5 meters. You choose standard cabinets that measure 0.5 meters wide.
While the formulas give you a solid baseline, curved LED setups have unique physical limitations that you must consider.
Flexible vs. Rigid Cabinets:
Standard rigid cabinets can only manage slight curves (usually between 5° to 15° per joint). If your design features a sharp bend or a tight radius, you must use flexible LED modules instead.
The Gap Factor:
When you angle rigid cabinets to form a curve, minor gaps can appear at the seams. Inner curves compress the front faces, while outer curves stretch them. You must choose hardware designed specifically for angled latching to keep these seams invisible.
Although these formulas work perfectly for estimating, we highly recommend mapping out your final design in CAD software. CAD programs account for the exact physical depth of the cabinets and the precise alignment of the steel support structure. This extra step guarantees a flawless installation without any surprises on site.
