Structural Integrity and Wind Load Failures

Outdoor LED displays act as large sails, subject to substantial wind forces. A 20m x 10m display experiences wind loads exceeding 50 kN at 120 km/h wind speed (typical building code requirement). Common structural failures include cabinet deformation, mounting bracket fatigue, and glass front panel shattering. Cabinets must be constructed from extruded aluminum with wall thickness of 2.0-3.0 mm and reinforced with internal ribs every 400 mm. Wind load calculations per ASCE 7-16 or equivalent local standards must account for exposure category, topographic factors, and gust effect.
