Unlike indoor displays, an IP65-rated cabinet ensures that rain, dust, and humidity do not penetrate the electronic components. It is important to note that IP65 is not suitable for submersion; it is designed for surface-level water exposure. For environments with high-pressure cleaning or temporary flooding, a higher rating such as IP66 or IP67 may be required. However, for most outdoor billboards, stadium screens, and advertising walls, IP65 provides a reliable balance between protection and thermal management. The front and rear of the display must both be rated; many IP65 displays use silicone potting or gaskets on the power supply and data connectors. Resolution is determined by the cabinet size and pixel pitch. A standard 500 mm by 500 mm cabinet with P4.8 mm pitch offers approximately 104 by 104 pixels per cabinet. For a large wall, total resolution must be calculated to ensure content scales correctly. Do not select a pitch that is too small for the intended distance, as it increases cost and power consumption without visible benefit. Conversely, a pitch that is too large will appear blocky and unprofessional to nearby viewers.
Outdoor LED displays consume significant power, and understanding the electrical load is essential for installation planning. Typical power draw ranges from 600 to 1,200 watts per square meter at maximum brightness. For a 10 square meter display, this could mean a total power requirement of 6,000 to 12,000 watts. Always check the average power consumption, which is lower due to dynamic content and brightness adjustment. Power supply units (PSUs) must be rated for outdoor conditions, with a wide input voltage range (110-240 V AC) and built-in surge protection. Thermal management is critical; IP65 enclosures are sealed, so heat must be dissipated through the rear chassis or via integrated fans with filters.
