Pixel pitch is the single most critical specification when selecting an outdoor LED display. It refers to the distance in millimeters between the centers of two adjacent pixels. A smaller pixel pitch, such as P3.9 or P4.8, means higher pixel density and better resolution for close-range viewing. For example, a P4 outdoor screen with a 4 mm pitch is suitable for viewing distances of approximately 4 meters (13 feet) and beyond. Conversely, a P10 or P16 screen is better for large billboards viewed from over 10 meters away, where the human eye cannot distinguish individual pixels at that range.
To determine the optimal pixel pitch, divide the minimum viewing distance in meters by 1000. For a viewing distance of 15 meters, a P15 or smaller pitch is adequate. However, for applications like roadside advertising or stadium displays where viewers may be as close as 5 meters, a P6 or P8 pitch ensures sharp text and clear images.
