Outdoor conditions include direct sunlight, rain, snow, temperature extremes ranging from -30°C to +50°C, and constant exposure to fuel vapors and cleaning chemicals. Traditional rigid LED displays have been used in these settings for years, but they come with limitations in form factor and installation flexibility. A flexible LED display offers a compelling alternative, but it requires specific engineering to survive the gas station environment. The display must achieve a minimum IP65 rating on the front and IP54 on the back to protect against water ingress and dust. Additionally, the surface must be resistant to gasoline, diesel, and common degreasers used in station maintenance. A key advantage of flexible panels is their ability to conform to curved building columns, cylindrical pump islands, or angled canopy fascias, enabling a seamless look that rigid panels cannot achieve.
Outdoor gas station displays must compete with direct sunlight, especially those mounted on canopy fascias or standalone totems. Flexible LED displays use surface-mount device (SMD) LEDs that are more resistant to vibration than through-hole LEDs, an important factor given the proximity to traffic and heavy vehicles.
