Professional LED Display Solutions for Every Application
The resolution standards used in LED displays are the same as those used in other display technologies such as LCD and OLED. They refer to the total number of pixels that make up the screen image.
Standard Resolution (W × H)
1080P (Full HD / FHD)
1920 × 1080 Approx. 2.07 million 4K (Ultra HD / UHD)
3840 × 2160 Approx. 8.3 million 8K (Ultra HD / UHD)
7680 × 4320 Approx. 33.2 million For example, a 1080P display contains 1,920 pixels horizontally and 1,080 pixels vertically, resulting in a total of 2,073,600 pixels.
LED displays use a modular structure. Manufacturers assemble multiple LED modules together to create a complete screen. Since a single module usually has a relatively low physical resolution — for example, 320 × 160 pixels — the final screen resolution depends on how many modules are combined.
To achieve a 4K resolution of 3840 × 2160 using 320 × 160 modules:
In practice, the vertical quantity must be rounded up to 14 modules to fully meet the required pixel count.
As a result, the complete LED video wall must combine enough modules to cover the full 3840 × 2160 resolution.
In the film industry, another standard called DCI 4K uses a resolution of 4096 × 2160. However, in commercial and consumer LED display applications, “4K” usually refers to UHD resolution, which is 3840 × 2160.
How to Choose the Right Resolution and Pixel Pitch The ideal resolution and pixel pitch mainly depend on the viewing distance and application scenario.
1–3 meters (close viewing)
4K (3840×2160)
P0.9–P1.8 Broadcast studios, control rooms, medical displays, virtual production 3–8 meters (medium viewing distance)
1080P or 4K P1.8–P3.9 Meeting rooms, exhibition halls, retail stores, small and medium stages 10–30 meters (long-distance viewing)
1080P or lower P5–P10 Outdoor billboards, shopping mall atriums, street advertising screens
These guidelines provide a general reference for selecting an LED display. However, factors such as installation environment, screen size, content type, and budget can also affect the final choice. Therefore, consulting Toosen experienced professionals can help you determine the most suitable solution for your specific project.
