Pixel pitch selection is critical: for a viewing distance of 15 to 30 feet, a 2.5mm to 3.9mm pixel pitch provides an optimal balance between resolution and cost. A 2.5mm pitch display at 10 feet viewing distance will appear seamless, while a 3.9mm pitch is acceptable for distances beyond 25 feet. Look for any visible seams or mura (unevenness) from the typical viewing distance of 20 to 40 feet. For high-resolution applications like displaying Bible verses or lyrics, the uniformity must be tight enough that individual pixels are not distinguishable.
Different worship activities require different calibration profiles. For live video feeds of the pastor or worship leader, prioritize color accuracy and skin tone reproduction. Use a calibration target of 6500K with a gamma of 2.2 to match standard video cameras. For displaying lyrics or sermon notes, high contrast is essential: calibrate the display to achieve a contrast ratio of at least 3000:1 by adjusting the black level offset. Some rental LED displays have a native contrast ratio of 5000:1 or more when properly calibrated. For special events like Christmas or Easter productions that include video backgrounds, create a separate calibration profile with a slightly lower brightness (600 to 1000 nits) to blend with theatrical lighting. Provide the worship facility with a calibration report that includes the measured color temperature, brightness uniformity, and contrast ratio. LED panels can drift over time, especially if they are used at high brightness levels for long services. Train the worship tech team to recognize signs of drift, such as visible color shifts between cabinets or a general change in white balance. With proper calibration and maintenance, a rental LED display can deliver consistent, high-quality visuals that enhance worship services for years.
