City squares represent the ultimate test environment for LED displays. These installations must withstand direct sunlight, heavy pedestrian traffic, and operate reliably for 16 to 20 hours daily. Unlike indoor screens or small outdoor billboards, a city square display serves as a communal focal point for news, events, advertising, and public announcements. The primary technical challenge is balancing high brightness with energy efficiency. For daytime readability in direct sunlight, you require a brightness level of at least 5,000 to 7,000 nits. However, for nighttime viewing, the display must dim to below 500 nits without flicker, which demands a high-quality driver IC and a refresh rate of 3,840 Hz or higher to avoid visible scanning lines on camera recordings. The viewing distance in a city square varies dramatically. A viewer may stand 5 meters away or 200 meters away. This makes pixel pitch selection critical. For a square where people walk directly past the screen, a pixel pitch of 4 mm to 6 mm is appropriate. For larger squares where the primary audience is across the square, a pitch of 8 mm to 10 mm works well.
